THEY ARE JUST PRACTICING

The eggs are due to hatch next weekend.  I tried not to get too excited because the eggs were infertile the first time.  I was doing good until recently.  I researched another way to candle the eggs so that I could get a better view of just what is going on with these eggs.  Sources say that you can check the eggs by candle method after the sixth day of being laid.  I waited until a week before they are to hatch.  This time I used a flash light in a dark closet.  It is clear that there is no life forming in the eggs, no embryo, no baby chicks.  I returned the eggs to Rebekah for now.  I think that I will have Kiwi checked out for DNA sexing and close off the access to the nest box soon to give Rebekah a rest.

THE SECOND TIME AROUND

Some people say that the second time around is better than the first.  Well,  we shell see.  This is Kiwi's and Rebekah's second time at trying to have a family.  Once again  Rebekah laid four eggs.   The eggs are due to hatch around the 4th of July.  That is less than two weeks away.  I pray that these eggs are fertile, will in deed hatch and that mom, dad and the four chicks will all be healthy.

All Is Well That Is Well

I took out my camera to take photos of the three birds that I have.  During the photo session, I discovered a forth egg in the nest.  I am not too worried because Rebekah is acting healthy and normal.  She is eating a healthy diet mix and also eating from the cuddle bone that remains in the cage at all times.  Otherwise I would wounder if she is becoming calcium depleted or calcium deficient.   All is well!

Kiwi & Rebekah Are Determined To Start A Family

On 6/7/2010, I discovered that Rebekah had laid an egg.  She laid another on 6/9, and a third on6/11.  I can see the Kiwi and Rebekah are determined to start a family.  I thought that it was too soon after the first try ended up with four infertile eggs. But ...I guess nature thought otherwise.  I am trying not to get too excited but just trying to wait and see what happens.
